For Visitors: What to Expect in Worship

First, we hope you will feel welcomed into our midst. We are ordinary people, just like you. We recognize that we are sinners, and we confess it every week. More importantly, we confess that we are saints of God, who have been saved by God’s undeserved love to us in the work of his son, Jesus Christ. We seek to serve any and everybody with the free and joyful gospel of our Savior. We’d be very glad to have you join us as a visitor to our Christian church.

Worship Style

Our style of worship is liturgical, meaning that we follow the Christian church calendar (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost) and a set of readings from the Bible that lead us in our worship and lives of Christian faith. While each week is different, the general order of service includes hymns/songs, confession/forgiveness, prayers, Scripture readings, and a 20 minute sermon.

You’ll find that Saturday evening worship has a more contemporary music style, and the Sunday services use more traditional music, but the rest of the service holds the same content.

Communion

Twice each month we celebrate and partake of the Sacrament of Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper.) Since the Lord wants us to understand the mystery and meaning of this special gift, we practice a close communion for our members. We’d love for you to join us in partaking of this beautiful and gracious meal. So, if you’d like to find out more, please speak with one of our pastors or check out our Bible Information Class.

Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is also frequently received during worship, usually at the beginning of the service. Please speak with one of our pastors if you’d like to learn more.

Children are Welcome

At Mount Calvary Lutheran, worship is for the whole family. Children of all ages are welcome. If your children become restless, that’s okay. We’re glad that they are here, and Jesus is pleased when they are brought to hear his Word. Feel free to use the the entryway or Cry Room (located to the left of the sanctuary past the elevator) to calm your child. Both areas are speaker-equipped with a view of the sanctuary. The Cry Room and the women’s bathroom each have a changing station.
